You see, when we moved to Montana 2 years ago, we agreed that I wouldn't get a job. It was a perfectly timed respite from the stressful nursing job I left back in Tennessee and provided us with a more open schedule to explore. My weekends and holidays were completely open! And for a while, it was perfect. Until I realized that I had all of this free time and no hobbies. Absolutely nothing to fill my time. That is when I started to "explore" a little more about myself.
It was time I chose a hobby. First, I chose reading. I loved to read when I was kid so I ventured down to the public library, got a library card and started checking out books. It didn't take me long to exhaust their supply of Nicholas Sparks novels, so I began to broaden my horizons. The library was a wonderful source of information to choose my next hobby! Next came my magic trick hobby (which was very short-lived), my acupressure and reflexology hobby (which I quit once I couldn't cure my husband's headaches) and my ukulele hobby. Yes, I went and purchased a ukulele after seeing a street performer make it look so very easy (which it's not). But none of these hobbies seemed to stick. Until I discovered cookie decorating!
It started in October of 2014 when I decided that I wanted to decorate Christmas cookies for my husband and I to enjoy on Christmas Eve. My habit of scrolling through pages and pages of Pinterest ideas had me convinced that I could make sugar cookies from scratch and then make them look beautiful. So, I gave it a try! My first attempt went better than expected and I had a wonderful time making them. We had an even better time eating them! From then on, I have been making cookies, decorating them and sharing them with friends and coworkers!
So, after a whole year of self "exploration" to find my perfect hobby, I think I've found something that not only fills my time but I enjoy doing. My hope is that I will be able to share this joy of sugar cookies with the community by starting to sell my decorated cookies for parties, showers, holidays and events! It looks like 2015 could be a very exciting year!
Thank you for your interest and support!

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI just got a care package of cookies and local favorites from my Hometown on New Castle, Pennsylvania, just north of Pittsburgh. My favorite cookie from back home is Italian Wedding Cookies. No one has heard of them in Montana., I've been in Montana for 16 years and always get car packages from home.
I'm so glad you enjoy Montana and baking cookies. Maybe someday my girlfriend and I will try some of your cookies.
